NEW YEAR’S (2007) MESSAGE FROM THE VICAR
ST PAUL’S CHURCH, BREADFRUIT, LAGOS

BE LIGHT TO THE WORLD

My dear People of God,

I am delighted and happy to be able to give this New Year’s message. I do hope that you have enjoyed the last year and that you are thrilled to witness the year 2007. That we enter into another year is by God’s design and God’s will. Praise the Lord! The joy of the Lord will be your strength this year.

As we enter this New Year, the call is to remind ourselves that as Christians we are to be light to the world.

Jesus says we must let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven (Mt. 5:16). To be a Christian is to be light in this world of darkness. The world is full of darkness because of sin. How will the Christian make a difference unless he or she runs away from sin and seeks to be righteous? Wherever you are this year, whatever you do, and whatever is your thought, strive to be a light in darkness.

As we strive to be light, we must not neglect those who embrace darkness through unrighteousness. We have a duty to pray for them for God to touch their hearts.

Let us pray for our leaders, the world, national and local leaders, for God to touch their hearts so that they can lead the world in the right direction.

Pray especially for our country Nigeria as we prepare for this year’s election. Our country can become great in the comity of nations. Ask God to intervene in our politics. Pray that God will choose men and women after His heart. Let us be optimistic that it shall be well with us. Let us pray that all in Nigeria will embrace the culture of patriotism, discipline, contentment, love and all virtues.

With God on our side and with every body seeking to be morally right and loving, the Church of God will march on, and our country shall be blessed with goodness and mercy of God.

May the year 2007 be filled with progress, righteousness, love, peace, joy and happiness.

God bless you all abundantly

Happy New Year

The Michael

Your Vicar and Friend
